One-person agency

A one-person agency is a business run by one owner that sells services such as websites to other businesses, often with an AI agent doing much of the making while the owner runs the client work.

Definition

What it means

An agency used to mean a team: a designer, a developer, a writer and someone to answer the emails. A one-person agency is one owner doing all of that, usually starting with websites for local businesses. When an AI agent does much of the building, writing and research, people call it a one-person AI agency.

The owner still does the parts that make it a business: picking clients, agreeing prices, deciding what's good enough, and answering for the result.

An example

A dog groomer wants a new website. She hires one person, who agrees the scope and the price, asks for a deposit, has an AI agent build the site, checks it, shows her the right version and hands it over. Afterwards the same person runs her care plan. She never needs to know how the work was split, only that it arrived when promised.

What it needs to run well

With no team to share the load, the risk is losing track: a promise made on a call, a payment that hasn't arrived, a domain that renews next week. A one-person agency runs on a few things written down for each client, and a short daily list of what needs the owner.
