AI agent
An AI agent is an AI program that can carry out a task in steps, such as writing code, researching or drafting a message, using tools you give it, rather than only answering a question.
What it means
A chat assistant answers what you ask. An agent works on a task: it reads the files you point it to, writes code, runs it, checks the result and tries again. For a one-person agency, that means an agent can research a local business, draft an offer, build a website from a brief or draft a client reply, while you decide what's good enough.
Claude Code is one example. It runs on your computer and works in the folders you give it.
An example
You give your agent a client brief and ask for a five-page site for a dog groomer. It builds the pages, checks them on a phone-sized screen and tells you what it couldn't find, such as the Saturday opening hours. You fill the gap, review the site and decide when the client sees it.
What still needs you
An agent is fast, but it doesn't know your client, your prices or what you promised on the phone unless you tell it. It can also be confidently wrong. Anything that goes to a client or the public under your name is yours to check.
