AI search visibility
AI search visibility is whether AI assistants, such as ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews, mention a business when someone asks for one like it, and whether they describe it correctly.
What it means
More people now ask an AI assistant instead of searching: "Where can I get a birthday cake in Leeds?" The assistant may name two or three businesses with a line about each. AI search visibility is whether your client is one of them, and whether what the assistant says about them is right. Some people call the work GEO, short for generative engine optimisation.
Most of the groundwork is the same as local SEO: accurate business details everywhere, a clear website, and a well kept Google Business Profile. What's different is how the answer appears, what you can measure, and what you can honestly promise.
An example
You ask a few assistants the questions a bakery's customers would ask. One names the bakery with the right hours. Another names it with a phone number from two years ago. The fix is at the source: correct the number on the website, the Business Profile and the other listings the assistant is likely to read, then ask the same questions again next month.
What nobody can promise
Assistants change their answers from day to day, and no one controls what they say. You can check, fix the sources and report what you saw, with the date. You can't promise a mention.
In Volant
The AI search visibility service checks the questions you agree with the client on the assistants you choose, and reports what each one said, with dates.
